Data Literacy

The Asia Regional Information Center uses data modules to collect data including the IMF, World Bank, and UN SDGs, and to provide data services. Based on data services currently being provided, ARIC is planning to conduct data literacy research. Data literacy means the ability to read data and understand the meaning behind it. While many indicators are flooding, there is not much research on how there is any difference between similar indicators. In addition, limited research periods have led to the use of indicators by researchers without sufficient comparative analysis of the indicators.

Considering the above issues, the ARIC would like to conduct comparative studies to reproduce available knowledge and propose what indicators are suitable for. Therefore, various indicators such as GDP, democracy index, corruption index, governance index, and etc will be compared. On the other hand, with the data we have collected, we will provide a factsheet of countries that can summarize the current status of a country. This will be the first step for the readers to read the data and understand the meaning of it.
